Key Features
Samyang AF 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Zoom Lens Sony FE in More Detail
Fast all-round zoom
The Samyang AF 35-150mm F2-2.8 FE has a maximum f/2 aperture at its widest end, and f/2.8 at the telephoto end, which covers five extremely popular prime focal widths (35/50/85/135/150). This particular is designed to be a fast all-rounder, which covers a broad range of shooting situations, from portraits and travel, to weddings and events. A premium design with 2nd generation lens performance has been implemented, and it supports key features from recent , including:
- Hybrid AF
- Eye AF
- Direct Manual Focus (DMF)
- AF assist function
Cover everything from 35mm to 150mm
Samyang has leapt ahead with it’s second generation zoom lens design, in order to provide a more convenient user experience, with a remarkably versatile all-rounder boasting a fast maximum aperture. This provides an excellent option for photographers who want to avoid changing lenses and simply use a single, all-in-one solution. Whilst primarily designed for portrait photographers, the zoom range is useful for creators shooting commercial, events and travel photos.
Corner to corner sharpness
This lens demonstrates excellent optical performance throughout the zoom ranges from wide-angle to telephoto due to the latest optical design, which features no less than 12 special elements from a total of 21 (in 18 groups). When combined with Sony’s full-frame image sensor, the lens delivers superior sharpness from edge to edge along with Samyang’s ’UMC (Ultra Multi-Coating)’ technology, which has been applied to minimise flare and ghosting.
Bright f/2 – f/2.8 aperture
With its large f/2 aperture you can create attractive background blur and out-of-focus areas, effectively separating the subject from distracting backgrounds, as well as using a shallow depth of field to capture unique images with compressed backgrounds. The natural bokeh characteristic created by 9 diaphragm blades also make it possible to capture beautiful cityscapes at night.
Fast and accurate AF
The STM (Linear Stepping Motor) provides high responsiveness and accuracy when shooting both photos and videos and is also excellent for tracking fast-moving subjects. The system is compatible with Sony’s Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF whilst supporting shading, chromatic aberration, and lens distortionin-camera correction.
0.33m minimum focus distance
The AF 35-150mm f/2-2.8 FE lens provides excellent close-up performance, especially for a zoom with such a broad zoom range. With a Minimum Object Distance (MOD) of 0.33m at 35mm and 0.85m at 150mm, you can achieve amazing close-ups with sharp details. When combined with the fast aperture, the background can be effectively blurred when shooting close to your subject, making the lens even more versatile.
Enhanced control for stills and video
Custom switches and buttons on the lens barrel allow you to control the lens via three custom switches. When setting the custom switch to MODE 2, the focusing ring operates aperture adjustment in AF position and Linear MF in the MF position, while a unique video Dolly Shotis set through MODE 3. In addition to these controls there are also two focus save buttons in the MF position, which allow the user to naturally change focus between two subjects.
Video-specific features
The Samyang AF 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Zoom Lens for Sony has been optimised for hybrid creators who capture videos, in order to capture the most professional content.
- Dolly Shotallows you to easily recreate the effects of using a dolly by rotating the zoom ring whilst tracking the subject.
- Linear MF mode adjusts the focus movement to be constant regardless of the speed at which the focus ring is turned through 300º rotation. When using follow-focus, this provides more precise control.
- Digital Par-Focalworks after focusing on the subject in MF, whereby the focus no longer requires further adjustment, even when zooming in or out. This allows filmmakers to reduce shooting time and provides more accurate and stable shooting.
Premium design and build-quality
Samyang’s updated premium hidden red ring’ design takes build quality and useability to the next level. Build quality and durability have been improved with a metal lens barrel, while a zoom lock switch conveniently locks the lens at its shortest position for storage and transportation.
Extensively weather sealed
Samyang has ensured the lens is completely weather sealed at the mount and throughout the body, with seals applied to 12 areas, which prevent damage or contamination from dust, light rain and snow.
